No one rewards you

No one rewards you for doing the right thing when it's too little and it's too late.

No one rewards you for getting up, for being courageous, when you should have gotten up sooner, courageous earlier.

No one rewards you when you want to quit and you want to quit and you want to quit, but you don't, but you don't, but you don't.

No one rewards you for doing something today what you should have done yesterday.

No one rewards you for doing something this week that should have been done last week.

No one rewards you when you do the right thing when no one is looking and no one will ever know.

No one rewards you for doing a job that could have been done by someone else.

No one rewards you when you feel stretched and fatigued, and you give your best that's not enough because it wasn't done right the first time.

No one rewards you when you try to give yourself and it seems like it's not enough---for anyone.

No one rewards you as Atticus says, "When you know you're licked, but you see it through no matter what."

No one.

I believe in taking responsibility for our actions.

I believe in facing the music when I rather crawl back in bed.

I believe in taking the heat when it's my fault.

I believe in apologizing to people who don't want apologies and tell you so in your face.

But no one rewards you for it.  And nor should they.

And nor should they.

Amén.
